Featured Wines:
‘Over The Hill’ Reserve Shiraz
Given their ancient appearance, ‘over the hill’ would be a suitable description of the vineyard used to produce the grapes for this wine. The fruit for this classic Shiraz came from the oldest existing Shiraz vineyard in McLaren Vale – planted in 1880. From those 130 year old vines comes this deep, brooding Shiraz. Aroma and flavour of black fruits, raspberry, chocolate and coffee combine with French oak to yield a powerful wine of great intensity and length. It is rich and rounded with a complex palate showing well integrated, soft tannins. ‘Hunt Road’ Reserve Cab-Sauv
Deep, rich ruby colours give a hint of what is to come. The bouquet shows volumes of cherry and blackberry scents, with toasty oak providing a solid backbone. The palate follows with rich dark-berry tastes and hints of capsicum and dark chocolate, which are rounded out by cigar-box and oaky flavours. It is multi-layered and quite complex in character. The flavours are long lasting and the overall impression is one of smooth complexity and depth.

Review of 2011 Watervale Atlas Riesling by Chris Shanahan
- First published in The Canberra Times Winemaker Adam Barton sources grapes from sites he favours in the Clare and Barossa Valleys – in this instance from “a single patch of old, dry-grown riesling, situated on sheltered east-facing slope”. Hand picking, de-stemming and low juice extraction rates produce a delicate riesling with lime-like varietal aroma and flavour and pleasant minerally touch. The palate’s delicate, fine and dry and likely to reveal more over the coming years. This is a brand to watch.
